In the past few days, we have received reports of door-to-door magazine sales people in the older part of Scripps Ranch (Timberlake Drive, White Birch Drive and Rock Creek Drive.)
Factual Summary of Events
About 8:00 in the evening last Tuesday, a Scripps Ranch resident reported that a young woman who identified herself as "Cathy's daughter" was selling magazines to help the Scripps Ranch High School soccer team. The saleswoman told the resident that she lived on Timberlake Drive. The saleswoman said the subscriptions were tax deductible, too. The resident bought a magazine subscription but later became suspicious.
After an online computer search of the company, "Marquis Fulfillment Agency LLC", the resident found that there were many reports of scams involving the company and found similar stories of sales people using a high school as a means to make sales. The resident immediately stopped payment on the check and had to pay a bank fee.
We confirmed with both of the Scripps Ranch High School soccer coaches that neither team is doing fundraising and neither team does fundraising door-to-door.

What to Do if Someone Solicits
Please be careful about opening your door to people you do not know. Business solicitors are required to have a SDPD issued solicitation permit; non-profit groups are exempt. If you think someone selling door-to-door is suspicious or is not wearing a SDPD solicitation permit, please report the activity to the SDPD non-emergency number (858) 484-3154 and then send an email to us at This email address is being protected from spambots. There is no need to confront anyone and the police only ask that you be a good witness (use the physical description form we have on our website).
