Attend a Scripps Ranch meeting regarding the school district’s budget crisis on Wednesday, Nov. 18. As the district website states, over the last three years, California has seen historic reductions in school funding. For the San Diego Unified School District, this means a reduction of nearly 20% in school funding over three years, while the enrollment has increased by nearly 2%. That's a reduction of $180 million, plus another $16 million that might have to be cut before the end of the 2009-2010 school year.
Last year's budget anticipated a reduction in $84 million for 2010-2011. California's budget analysts are now estimating more cuts that could be in the $17-$110 million range.
To hear more about the budget crisis and to share your input, please join our school board trustee Katherine Nakamura and top district officials at a Scripps Ranch town hall meeting hosted by the Scripps Ranch Schools Committee.
