Reaching Goals

You may have read about the possibility of an international airport at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Miramar or East Miramar. Either location would greatly affect Scripps Ranch residents.

This month, the Scripps Ranch Planning Group (SRPG) has a detailed report about the proposals and explains the process. The article on page 25 is one you don't want to miss.

Thanks to SRPG chair, Bob Ilko, for his time on the report, and for taking me to the site to take the cover photos. I was stunned at how close the proposed flight path is to Scripps Ranch homes.

One thing you may have noticed about Scripps Ranch is that when this community sets a goal, it is usually reached. Let's set the goal of retaining MCAS Miramar as a military base and not turning it into an international airport.

So, get involved and let your elected officials and the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority know how you feel about having either site on the "short list" for an international airport.

To get in touch with elected officials, just visit the SRCA website at [www.scrippsranch.org] and we'll link you to them. You can find the Airport Authority's contact in the SRPG article. Let your voice be heard!

Do you have a question or concern that you would like to discuss with our city councilmember? Perhaps the airport issue? Well, now you have the opportunity. Councilmember Brian Maienschein will have a "meet and greet" on Wednesday, Nov. 19, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the Scripps Ranch Library. Stop by and let him know what's on your mind.

Good news for the community when it comes to the amount of park acres in Scripps Ranch. And, it could mean this community could reach its goal of joint-use playing fields at our new middle school. Page 17 has details.

Our Community Park will soon have a locked gate after the park closes. We don't have details yet, but page 29 has more information about what else is going on in Miramar Ranch North.

It's not something we like to think about, but domestic violence is a tragic reality. The County of San Diego has established a new domestic violence hotline that links callers to a variety of services. We will now include the number in the Directory section of each month's Newsletter on page 86 under "Emergencies." Thank you to the Hidden Valley House Auxiliary for bringing this to our attention.

If you have ever been to our Information Center, you know what a beautiful building it is. Well, now it has new policies regarding the meeting rooms, which may mean your group can use them, for a fee. Details are on page 19.

There are three Scripps Ranch children who reached an amazing goal and reached new heights--literally. Read their incredible story in this month's Spotlight on Scripps Ranch on page 47.

Last month I mentioned that our new Newsletter area distributor, Graham Nicastro, is not yet old enough to drive. Well, he can drive! My apologies, Graham, and thanks again for volunteering for this important community position.

A new play opens this month at the Scripps Ranch Theatre. Greetings! has a warm holiday message. Set a goal to see this play and get in the holiday spirit. Page 63 has all the details.

Santa Claus is coming to Scripps Ranch! In what has become a community tradition, McMillin Realty is once again hosting Santa. And, your kids can get pictures with him--for free! Page 21 has all the information.

Can you believe the holiday season starts this month? My goal during the holidays is to enjoy my family and friends and be sure they know how important they are to me. I hope you enjoy the season!
